Breast Surgery
At Northwest Breast Surgery, we understand the complex feelings that accompany a breast cancer diagnosis. That's why we've created a supportive program for women undergoing lumpectomies, mastectomies and breast reconstructive surgeries. The team works hard to maintain breast appearance during the initial surgery and we work closely with you to create a surgical plan that is consistent with your goals. Services offered include:
- Skin-sparing mastectomies – during a skin-sparing mastectomy, the surgeon removes the nipple and areola and removes breast tissue through that smaller incision. The rest of the breast skin is left intact to provide the best shape for reconstructive surgeries. Many women choose to get a tattoo of the areola and nipple once reconstruction is finished.
- Nipple-sparing mastectomies – during a nipple-sparing mastectomy, the nipple, areola and skin are left intact. Breast tissue is removed from an incision either under the crease of the breast, or on the outer edge of the breast, towards the arm. While not every woman is a candidate, this type of mastectomy offers the most natural look for reconstruction.
- Plastic surgery – if you have chosen reconstruction, we can coordinate with your plastic surgeon to begin the reconstruction process immediately. We offer both implant-based breast reconstruction as well as autologous reconstruction, where your own skin, muscle and fat is taken from your abdomen or back to create a new breast.
- Partial mastectomies – a partial mastectomy, sometimes called a lumpectomy or breast-conserving surgery, removes only the tumor and tissue around the tumor. It is often done in consultation with a plastic surgeon, and some women choose to have surgery on their other breast for an even appearance.
We will work closely with you to help you make the right surgical decision, based on your cancer, breasts and other health issues. Whatever your goal, we provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment and will help you throughout your diagnosis, surgery, recovery and follow-up.
