About
Back in medical school, when I was leaning towards specializing in emergency medicine, I signed up to be an “ultrasound model” for physicians to practice their hands-on ultrasound skills on real patients. One day, my ultrasound modeling revealed a large mass on my kidney, which they told me was probably kidney cancer. I went to see a urologist who said, “I think this is just a big, swollen kidney.”
That experience changed the course of my career and led me to specialize in urology. I understand firsthand the urgency and anxiety that often come with urologic issues – for both patients and their families. That’s why I believe in a collaborative, respectful approach to care. Rather than simply telling patients what to do, I focus on shared decision-making, open communication and ensuring every patient feels heard and supported throughout their journey.
My primary focus is on the treatment of prostate and kidney cancer, and I work closely with radiation oncologists in order to coordinate the best care for patients. Most people diagnosed with these cancers have an array of treatment options, and I present them with everything available so that I can help them make the best, most informed decisions. I take pride in maintaining long-term relationships with my patients.
In addition, I perform many robotic and laparoscopic surgeries, including robotic prostatectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic ureteral reimplantation, robotic nephroureterectomy, robotic pyeloplasty and percutaneous stone surgery. I also treat and manage benign prostatic hyperplasia and other general urologic procedures.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three sons – I do a lot of soccer-game watching, as well as hiking and running.
