                      About

As a physician with decades of experience, I partner with patients and strive to provide the very best preventive care – the kind of care that prevents chronic illness and disease from developing in the first place, or from getting worse. My goal is to help people navigate towards their very best state of health, well-being and activity level. I began my training in high acuity hospital medicine – where patients needed a lot of specialized care – only to learn that many of the illnesses I treated could have been prevented.

Over the course of my career serving underserved patients – Native American communities, disabled veterans seeking benefits, incarcerated individuals – I saw many people whose suffering could have been avoided if only they had received appropriate care years – or even decades – earlier.

I like to hear people’s stories to find out what their lives are like, and what makes them tick. It’s important for a doctor to know where patients are coming from, to be clear and understandable, and to give them the time and space to assimilate information and options.

Because I listen closely to understand what my patient’s goals are, I’m able to help them on their journey. It’s always OK for a patient to feel comfortable telling me, “I didn’t like that medication you prescribed,” or even, “I didn’t take that medication you prescribed.” As I tell my patients, there’s no need to try and impress me. Honesty is what’s important.

When I’m not with patients, I love to spend time with my family and grow things in my garden (I was raised in rural Wisconsin and am still part farmer). I also love exploring the hiking and cycling opportunities Tucson has to offer.
