About
I decided to become a doctor when I was five or six years old. My mother was a medical assistant in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, and I watched her – and the physicians she worked with – care for people. I was good at science and math, liked helping people and knew medicine was my calling.
I really liked the idea of general surgery early on. When the benefits of surgery outweigh the risks, a procedure can be life-changing for a patient. And for me, it’s rewarding – to fix a problem in one shot. I love when a patient comes in for a follow-up appointment a few weeks later and is feeling back to normal.
I perform a broad range of surgeries and have a special interest in robotic minimally invasive surgery, breast surgery and complex abdominal wall hernia repair. I also have a wide breadth of experience pertaining to gastrointestinal surgery.
My patients say I’m thorough and reassuring, and that I explain things well. I use a variety of educational materials so that patients fully understand their current condition, as well as their options for addressing it, without over-worrying or panicking. I also enjoy working on lifestyle changes with my patients to try and ensure that their problems don’t return (and that they don’t develop new problems).
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and two dogs. I’m also a saltwater and reef aquarium enthusiast – I love to relax and watch them swim.
