For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a nurturing person. From being mom’s little helper to summer camp counselor to taking care of my five brothers, caring for others has always been what I do. This interest continued through college where my research in physiology and rheumatology reinforced that my calling in life was medicine.
I chose to specialize in internal medicine because it allows me to see something new every day. When I began in internal medicine, technology wasn’t like it is today. With no MRIs or cat scans available, I had to use all my senses to help diagnosis patients and get them on the road to recovery. This skill is something that has stayed with me over the years. Having that personal connection with your patients is vital.
At my practice, patients always come first. I believe patients see me as their partner in health, and appreciate that I take the time to really listen to them. Letting a patient express what they feel is the best insight I can receive, which is why giving patients adequate time at their appointments is the key to the right diagnosis.
I was a staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic when my wife accepted a job as a professor at the University of Arizona College of Public Health. My family has called Tucson home ever since. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, ballroom dancing and traveling.
